Conkling Elementary Students Explore Adirondack History

On September 30, some of Conkling Elementary’s fourth- and fifth-grade students took a field trip to Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake. This marked the third time Conkling students have visited the museum.

For the past 10 years, fourth-grade teacher Mr. Brown has worked to create opportunities for students to connect with Adirondack Experience, whether through in-person visits to the school or interactive live calls. These experiences give students the opportunity to learn about the rich history and culture of the Adirondack region.

During their recent field trip, students took their learning beyond the classroom as they explored the museum’s interactive exhibits, historical artifacts and hands-on experiences. Students learned about how people lived, worked and traveled throughout the Adirondacks, including the region’s history of logging, mining, boats and railroads.

The museum also introduces students to the history and present-day cultures of the Mohawk and Abenaki people. Through these experiences, students can make connections between life in the past and their own lives today.

A special thank you to Adirondack Experience for providing our students with an engaging learning experience and to Mr. Brown for continuing to create these meaningful opportunities for our students to connect with Adirondack history and culture.
